KARACHI: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued show-cause notices to several news channels for irresponsible coverage of incident occurred at Pakistan Stock Exchange.
According to a press release issued by the authority today (Tuesday), several channels were showing footages of firing, dead bodies, and ammunition/weapons on the screens.
“Channels have been asked to respond within 7 days, failing which legal action under PEMRA laws shall be initiated,” read the press release.
Earlier on Monday (June 29), the PSX building had come under attack when four heavily armed assailants tried to enter the building and opened fire on security guards and officials.
In an exchange of fire, all four terrorists were killed while four other security personnel were martyred. The outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility through social media.
Earlier today (Tuesday), Prime Minister Imran Khan asserted that the government has no doubt that the Pakistan Stock Exchange attack in Karachi was perpetrated by India.
Addressing the National Assembly, the Prime Minister said, “We have no doubt this was done by India to destabilize Pakistan.”
Quoting the example of Mumbai attack, PM Imran said that the terrorists wanted to do the same in Karachi, however, the timely action by the security forces thwart the attack.
