The owner of the newly inducted Sialkot franchise in the ongoing season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has shared important indications regarding the team’s captaincy and potential squad.
This year, two new teams have been added to the PSL — Hyderabad and Sialkot — generating significant excitement among cricket fans.
Sialkot team owner Hamza Majeed stated that the decision regarding the captain and final squad will be made after the players’ bidding scheduled for 30 January, although the overall team strategy has already been outlined.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, he said that the player drafting process will be completed by the end of this month. Hamza Majeed added that including Babar Azam in the squad is everyone’s wish.
He further revealed that six to seven Australian cricketers have registered for the draft, out of whom three to four players are expected to be part of the Sialkot squad.
The franchise owner emphasised that the team’s priority is to include players from Pakistan’s current playing XI to build a strong and balanced squad.
He clarified that the Sialkot franchise is focused on promoting local talent and providing young players with a major platform, adding that Sialkot-based youngsters will be selected purely on performance.
Regarding captaincy, Hamza Majeed confirmed that the Sialkot team will be led by a Pakistani player, while the coaching staff will be appointed strictly on merit. He also stated that if a suitable local coach is not available, the franchise may consider appointing a foreign coach.
