LAHORE: The provincial government has decided to impose an emergency in Punjab in view of increasing cases of abuse against women and children.
According to details, the provincial Home Minister Attaullah Tarar while addressing a press conference said that the law and order situation has been very bad since he came to power.
According to Tarar, the number of rape cases has been increasing on a daily basis. “The number has increased dramatically, so we have decided to activate the Cabinet Committee,” he said.
Attaullah Tarar said that the Cabinet Committee would review the situation including law and order, consult with civil society, teachers, lawyers, and all the organizations working for women and children.
Besides, on the occasion, Provincial Law Minister Malik Ahmad Khan said that the law and order situation is a matter of concern. “Elections are being held in 20 constituencies of Punjab, we will try to hold all by-elections in a peaceful manner,” he said.
He maintained that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure that arms and ammunition would not be allowed to be used under any circumstances.
