The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has uncovered an alleged illegal organ transplant network operating at a private hospital in Islamabad, leading to the arrest of nine individuals, including a well-known urologist and a hospital employee.
According to authorities, the group was allegedly involved in unlawful kidney transplant procedures and had been targeting economically disadvantaged individuals from South Punjab through the network.
FIA officials stated that the operation followed a raid on a major private hospital in Islamabad, where suspicions had arisen regarding the illegal removal of kidneys through unauthorised surgical procedures. Investigators identified the doctor and the hospital staff member as key figures in the alleged network.
The action was launched on the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, FIA Director General Usman Anwar, and Islamabad Zone Director Syed Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari.
Authorities said the investigation forms part of a broader crackdown targeting an organised group allegedly exploiting poor and low-income individuals from South Punjab, particularly in Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan.
