President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Madrasah Registration Act into law, as reported by national citing the National Assembly Secretariat.
According to a report by ARY News on Sunday, the new law, known as the Societies Registration Act 2024, is part of the government’s efforts to regulate and formalize the registration of seminaries (Madrasahs).
With President Zardari’s signature, the bill has officially become law, and the National Assembly is expected to issue the gazette notification shortly. The law mandates that religious seminaries now register under the Societies Registration Act, creating a more streamlined regulatory framework for these institutions.
A National Assembly spokesperson confirmed that the matter was resolved through mutual understanding, ensuring consensus on the law’s implementation.
Last week, the federal government agreed to the demands of the Ittehad Tanzeemat Madaaris Deenia (ITMD) regarding the Seminary bill, particularly the registration process under the Societies Act.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that no joint session of Parliament will be called to discuss the issue. A notification formalizing the agreement is expected soon, in line with proposed amendments under the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
