Operations with Safe City cameras have started in Karachi, a vehicle with a fake number plate was caught within the limits of Aram Bagh, as reported by national media.
According to details, an alert about a fake number plate was issued by the Safe City cameras, the car driver was arrested and a case was registered at Aram Bagh police station. DG Safe City Asif Ijaz Sheikh said that this is the first operation by Safe City Authority in Karachi.
DG Safe City said that a meeting was held by the Chief Minister of Sindh and the Home Minister of Sindh, in which orders were given to take action through Safe City cameras.
Asif Ijaz Sheikh said that orders were given for legal action through Safe City, direct orders were issued to IG Sindh and DG Safe City. The Chief Minister of Sindh said that the cameras that have been installed should be made operational immediately.
He said that the Chief Minister instructed to monitor criminal activities through the cameras, the Chief Minister of Sindh said that the police and Safe City Authority should work together.
It is worth noting that earlier, while starting work on the Safe City project in Karachi, state-of-the-art poles were installed at six locations. Work on the Safe City project started in Karachi in July last year and DG Safe City Asif Ijaz Sheikh and PD Brigadier Gil Hassan visited Aram Bagh and reviewed the work.
Initially, poles were installed at NED University, Aram Bagh, and Haqqani Chowk, while 2 poles were installed at Pakistan Chowk and one near DJ Science College. The installed poles have panic buttons and other options.
