Former CIA analyst Asif William Rahman has been sentenced to 37 months in prison، as reported by international media on Thursday.
According to details, Asif Rahman was sentenced for unlawfully obtaining highly sensitive national defense information and transferring it to individuals who were not authorized to possess it. In October 2024, this classified information was also shared on a social media platform.
According to documents presented in court, 34-year-old Asif William Rahman is from Vienna, Virginia. He had been employed by the CIA since 2016 and had access to highly classified information.
Some media reports state that Asif Rahman was born in California, raised in Ohio, and was residing in Virginia. He had disclosed secret information related to Israel’s preparations for a retaliatory strike against Iran.
Iran carried out the attack on October 1 in response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and it was also portrayed as revenge for the martyrdom of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah at the hands of Israel.
Reacting to the sentencing, U.S. Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Eisenberg stated that for several months, this individual betrayed the American people and violated his oath. However, this case makes it clear that the Department of Justice will protect the nation against those who leak secrets.
