The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), a coalition partner of the federal government, has made a major decision regarding the issue of extracting canals from the Indus River, as reported by national media.
According to a report, the difference of opinion between the federal government and the PPP on this matter has taken a new turn, and the PPP has decided to take the issue to the public court.
The PPP has announced plans to hold a public gathering on April 4 in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, coinciding with the death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, to protest against the extraction of canals from the Indus River.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has directed party leaders, emphasizing that this gathering holds great significance. He stated that the turnout should surpass that of the December 27 gathering held on the death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto.
Bilawal Bhutto will deliver a policy statement on the issue during his speech at the gathering. It is noteworthy that the PPP has been continuously opposing the federal government’s plan to extract six canals from the Indus River for the Green Pakistan project.
Recently, the Sindh Assembly unanimously passed a resolution against this project. Additionally, President Asif Ali Zardari, during his address at the joint session of Parliament, clearly stated that he would not support further extraction of canals from the Indus River in his capacity as president.
