The supply of poultry to Karachi has been officially suspended for today, Thursday, due to adverse weather conditions and road blockages, according to an announcement made by the Sindh-Balochistan Poultry Wholesale Association (South Zone).

The association’s president, Malik Zarif Awan, stated that poultry farms are primarily located in remote areas near riverbanks (known locally as “kacha” areas), where transportation becomes extremely difficult during the rainy season.

“Heavy rains have rendered roads unusable, causing cargo vehicles to get stuck or even overturn. These accidents not only lead to financial loss but also result in injuries to our laborers,” Awan said. “We’ve been bearing these losses for a long time, and we’ve had enough.”

He added that the association has decided not to send supply vehicles to poultry farms during the rainy season until the roads are safe and accessible again.

This decision is likely to impact poultry availability and prices in Karachi, at least temporarily.
