Just days before her death on July 26, Sinéad O’Connor revealed her future plans as the Irish singer-songwriter said on July 8 that she was preparing for a tour and writing new music. She said she was thrilled to finish an album for an early release in the upcoming year while residing in London.
The singer and activist found worldwide fame with her epic ballad Nothing Compares 2 U in 1990 – one of the standout songs of the decade.
In her tweet, O’Connor hinted at her touring plans, saying she hoped to perform in Australia and New Zealand next year, followed by tours across Europe and the US in 2025.
O’Connor had recently started a new Twitter account on July 6, redirecting her followers from her previous handle to @786OmShahid. In her bio, she humorously referred to herself as an “Amateur Theology Student” and “Also An Cailleach.”
On July 9, O’Connor responded to requests from her followers to confirm her identity with a video filmed in her flat. Despite acknowledging the toll of her son Shane’s passing in January 2022, she remained in relatively good spirits and shared her plans to write new music on her “Johnny f—ing Cash guitar.” Subsequent tweets mostly revolved around music, with a focus on Tibetan tunes that seemed to inspire her.
However, on July 15, O’Connor took a serious turn, warning her followers about “predators” and asserting her financial independence since 1985. She also mentioned being single.
A heart-wrenching tweet on July 17 revealed the pain she endured since her son’s tragic suicide, describing herself as a “living undead night creature”. Her final tweet from that account, on July 17, was a compassionate gesture as she shared a Tibetan mantra for “all mothers of Suicided children.”
Less than ten days later, her family confirmed the devastating news of her passing. Sinéad O’Connor, a beloved musician, was found unresponsive at her London home and pronounced dead at the scene. Police stated that her death is not considered suspicious.
