KARACHI: A police constable was injured after unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire early on Saturday in Korangi area.
According to Superintendent Police Korangi Faisal Abdullah, Constable Asghar was going to resume his duty when unidentified men on a motorcycle attacked him from the back in Korangi No 5 area. The suspects fired at him again when the constable fell from his motorcycle.
The suspects took away the policeman’s personal weapon and fled from the site of incident, he said. The wounded policeman received three bullets on his leg while one bullet pierced through his stomach.
SP Korangi added that the policeman was wearing a shirt over his police uniform at the time he came under the attack. The matter is said to an incident of target killing, he said.
He said the constable is receiving medical treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The policeman’s leg was also fractured after he ftll from his motorcycle.
In a separate incident, a guard at the residence of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani was found dead in a case of suspected suicide.
According to police, the guard was on duty at Durrani’s resident in Phase 5 area of Defence Housing Authority when he allegedly shot himself in the chest with his own weapon.
Domestic staff told police that the guard did not reveal any concerns or issues before the incident and had been serving the family for several years.
Police said that the shooting could be unintentional and further investigation is underway.
