KARACHI: A police sub-inspector was shot dead on Friday during an encounter with robbers in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi.
Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) East Sajid Sadozai said there was an exchange of fire between police and the criminals.
As a result, Additional Station House Officer (SHO) of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station Rahim Khan was shot dead. The encounter took place near Safari Park where the suspects were robbing people.
A heavy contingent of police has been deployed to trace the suspects. His body has been shifted to a nearby hospital.
There has been a steady rise in criminal incidents in the city. In another incident, police claimed to have killed a robber while his accomplice escaped after they were intercepted near Sumaira roundabout in Sachal Goth.
An exchange of fire ensued during which one of the robbers sustained a bullet wound and died on the spot. Police shifted the body to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The police also recovered weapons, mobile phones, cash, and a motorcycle from the deceased suspect, while efforts are being made to arrest his accomplice.
