Police on Saturday conducted a raid in Karachi’s Qayyumabad B area, where they seized a gutka factory operated by a police officer from the Special Branch, along with his accomplices.
According to details, two suspects, including Amjad, a police officer of the special branch and owner of the factory, have been arrested, while four suspects managed to escape. Gutka manufacturing equipment was also recovered during the raid.
The escaped suspects are reported to be the brothers of the accused Amjad. Police allege that the special branch officer was involved in operating the Gutka factory in collaboration with his brothers, using a police petrol card for Gutka distribution. A case has been registered against the arrested accused.
Earlier, another Gutka manufacturing setup was discovered on the roof of a mosque in Karachi’s Rizvia area, where police recovered gGutka-making machines and equipment. A person named Ashfaq had rented the place for this illicit activity.
The sale and consumption of Mawa, Gutka, and Main Puri are prohibited in Sindh. Last year, the Sindh Assembly passed legislation allowing for the seizure of property belonging to makers and sellers of Mawa, Gutka, and Main Puri.
