In the wake of Pak Suzuki Motor Company’s (PSMC) announcement of discontinuing the popular Wagon R, rumors began to swirl that the Suzuki Alto might also face discontinuation. Adding fuel to the fire were allegations that the National Highway Authority (NHA) had banned the Alto from motorways.
These speculations gained momentum after a tragic accident in which a Suzuki Alto was crushed by a fully loaded 12-wheeler truck, leaving the compact hatchback mangled beyond recognition.
The horrifying visuals sparked heated discussions about the safety of small cars on highways. Social media was soon flooded with claims that the Alto had been barred from high-speed motorways. But was there any truth to these assertions?
PSMC officials were quick to dispel rumors of the Alto’s discontinuation.
They clarified that while production of the base Alto VX variant—lacking crucial safety features like airbags and ABS—might be halted, the company remains committed to offering higher-end variants with advanced safety features, in line with global industry standards.
As for the alleged motorway ban, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) confirmed that no such restriction had been imposed. Officials said, “There is no news yet” regarding any ban on the Alto, putting an end to the speculation.
