KHAIRPUR: The district police have arrested a retired teacher for allegedly sexually assaulting children in Khairpur at his tuition centre.
Khairpur Police took action on an incident of sodomy against two students. Police said an FIR was arrested and the culprit Sarang Shar was arrested within 24hrs. Inspector-General Police has appreciated the efforts and announced a reward for the team.
Thari Mirwah police registered a case against the suspect after a video went viral of him sexually abusing a young boy. The teacher is accused of raping his students and making videos and blackmailing them.
According to the FIR, the boy’s father told the police that his 10-year-old son who studies in Grade 6, had been sexually assaulted by his tutor Sarang Shar. He added that Sarang managed to escape when he and two other relatives went to find him.
The incident occurred in the Thari Mirwah Tehsil of Khairpur Mirs where a retired teacher was involved in sexually abusing his students under the guise of tuition centre for several years.
The boy’s father, who is a driver by profession in Karachi, said he was horrified to see the video clip that had gone viral on social media. He explained that his son had recently joined the tuition centre during the lockdown as his school was closed.
He demanded justice for this son who is traumatised by the incident. He added that senior police officials including Khairpur SSP Aamir Magsi and DIG Fida Hussain Mastoi had contacted him and assured to arrest the teacher.
Local residents said several other videos had also circulated showing the tutor sexually abusing other children. A complaint was lodged but no action was taken as the suspect was influential in the area.
According to the SHO, Sarang Shar retired a few years back and moved from Faizganj Tehsil of Khairpur to set refuge after he was involved in similar incidents. He shifted to Thari Mirwah over a decade ago and set up a tuition centre.
Sarang is a known social figure in the area and is several social and educational events. He was the head of Government School Teacher’s Organisation and also founded several social organisations in the past. Police said his son and brothers were aware of his activities and strongly opposed him.
