LAHORE: The Nankana Sahib police arrested 60 suspects involved in the lynching of a man outside the police station on Saturday morning.
Numerous police teams conducted a widespread raid on homes, businesses, and other locations to apprehend the suspects.
According to Sheikhupura Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa, the FIR names 17 potential assailants or suspects.
He claimed that regardless of whether the attackers were affiliated with a particular religious organization or political party, the police were extremely clear in their response.
“Raids are underway for the arrest of others,” Nankana Sahib District Police Officer (DPO) Asim Iftikhar was quoted as saying in Dawn.
He said that the Warburton police lodged two first information reports, one against hundreds of suspects who attacked the police station and murdered Waris and the other for desecrating the Holy Quran.
He said that the police teams seized 923 video clips of the incident, and identified and arrested 60 of them, adding that the identification of more suspects was in process.
The footage, which was primarily captured on mobile phones, underwent forensic processing as well.
The DPO claims that an 800-person mob invaded the police station to forcibly hold the man who was being accused of blasphemy.
According to Mr. Iftikhar, 50 police officers attempted to save the man, but they were outnumbered.
He said that many police officers were on their way in response to an emergency need for reinforcements, but the man was killed by the mob before they could even get there.
He claimed that 15 of those detained belonged to a religious-political party.
