The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has obtained a simple majority in the Punjab Assembly by winning 139 seats out of the 297 general seats in the House.
The Punjab Assembly comprises a total of 371 seats, including 297 general seats, 66 reserved seats for women, and 8 reserved seats for non-Muslims. Notably, 135 independent candidates have won seats in the Punjab Assembly, with a majority aligning with the PTI.
According to official results, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has secured 10 seats, and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has won 8 seats in the Punjab Assembly.
The intriguing aspect is that PML-N will get most of the reserved seats, enabling it to achieve a clear majority in the house without the support of any other party. However, both PML-Q and PPP are likely to extend their support to the PML-N in Punjab. Additionally, there is a possibility that some independent candidates may join the PML-N in the province.
On another front, the PML-N is also poised to form the government at the center with the support of the PPP and other smaller parties.
It should be noted that independent candidates have secured 99 seats in the National Assembly, with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party occupying the second and third positions with 72 and 53 seats, respectively.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has emerged as the third strongest party in the National Assembly by winning 17 seats, while the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and PML-Q have each won 3 seats. The IPP has secured 2 seats.
