PM to inaugurate tree plantation drive today
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will begin the plantation drive today by planting a sapling at Shakarparian park under the Billion Tree Tsunami Programme.
As per details, the prime minster will address the tree plantation ceremony at 11 am. He will launch Urban Forestry Plantation Campaign in Lahore on 9th August.
According to sources, 9 million saplings will be planted in Punjab, 104 million in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 15 million in Sindh, 1.2 million in Balochistan, 3.3 million in Gilgit-Baltistan, seven million in Azad Kashmir and 0.5 million in Islamabad.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will kick-off an environment-friendly campaign in Islamabad, aiming at the eradication of plastic bags from 14th August.
On Saturday, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar inaugurated the monsoon tree plantation drive.
In September 2018, Prime Minister Imran Khan launched a country-wide 10 billion tree plantation drive from KPK to combat the effects of global warming.
