ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan performed the groundbreaking of a low cost housing project under Naya Pakistan Housing Program in Sargodha.
On the occasion, the prime minister was given a briefing on the project. Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar was also present on the occasion.
Under this scheme, a total of 1,175 houses of three marlas will be constructed at six locations in Sargodha district. The Punjab government will provide land as well as other facilities for this project.
The construction work will be carried out by Frontier Works Organization. The mortgage facility will be provided by Punjab Bank which will enable the deserving people to pay the total amount of a house through easy installments. The government has received 33,528 applications for the housing project and the houses will be allotted through balloting.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the promise of constructing five million houses is now transforming into a reality. He pointed out that the cement sale is currently at record level. He said the development journey will continue.

Later addressing the ceremony, the prime minister said the project envisaging construction of 2,000 flats is aimed at providing shelter to underprivileged segments of the society including workers and labourers.
The prime minister said a plan has also been prepared to convert slums and equip them with the modern facilities including sanitation and sewerage. He said the slum dwellers will be given houses on proprietary rights.
PM Imran Khan said the mortgage facility has been introduced to provide loans to the people on easy installments so that they could construct the houses. He said negotiations are continuing with banks to remove any impediments.
