ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan urged the elected representatives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to pace up their public interaction and campaign ahead of the upcoming local body elections.
In a meeting with Chief Minister Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and the PTI’s members of national and provincial assemblies, the prime minister called for mobilising the party workers to intensify the pre-election drive. The meeting discussed the overall political situation in the province, ongoing development schemes and matters related to party organisation in the province.
PM Imran Khan reportedly expressed displeasure over PTI’s defeat in the first phase of the LG polls where archrival Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) bagged unexpected seats.
The premier called intensifying pre-election drive in KP where the next phase of local government elections would be held in 18 districts for which candidates are required to submit their nomination papers between February 7 and 11.
The meeting was attended by Communication Minister Murad Saeed, and members of National Assembly including Haider Ali Khan, Saleem Rahman, Sahibzada Sibghatullah, Mehboob Shah, Muhammad Bashir Khan, Junaid Akbar, Muhammad Nawaz Khan and Saleh Muhammad.
The Election Commission of Pakistan announced the schedule of second phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 18 districts. The second phase of elections would be held in 18 districts on March 27, 2022.
The nomination papers could be submitted with the election body between 7-11 February, according to a schedule. The initial list of the candidates will be issued on February 12 and scrutiny of the nomination papers will continue until February 22.
Earlier in December, PM Imran Khan has expressed displeasure over the defeat in the LG elections and said he would himself monitor polls to be held in the country in future.
The prime minister had admitted that the PTI had made ‘mistakes’ in the first phase of local government elections in KP and paid the price. He said the selection of wrong candidate was a major cause, however, in the second phase of LG polls, the PTI would bounce back with strength
