ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed complete confidence in the abilities of newly appointed Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin.
Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tareen held an important meeting with PM Imran Khan and discussed matters pertaining to the economic situation of the country.
Sources said that economists, financial experts, Federal Minister Hamad Azhar and social media members of the ruling party were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed full confidence in the abilities of Shaukat Tareen and said that he has known him for more than 35 years and he is also a part of the Board of Governors of Shaukat Khanum Hospital.
On this occasion, Shaukat Tareen said that based on his 49 years of experience in the economic sector, he knows what steps should be taken to turn the economy in the right way. Shaukat Tareen maintained for the development of the economy the country’s GDP growth must be at least 6 to 7 percent.
Responding to a question regarding the possible removal of the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Shaukat Tareen said that the incumbent, Raza Baqir has done a “great job in bringing reforms to the bank. Considering his performance there is no possibility to remove Baqir from his post,” Tareen clarified.
last week, PM Imran Khan had reshuffled the federal cabinet and appointed Shaukat Tareen as the country’s new finance minister.
Tareen had replaced federal minister Hammad Azhar, who was appointed as the country’s finance minister in March when the premier replaced Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. Consequently, Hammad Azhar was appointed as the minister for energy, replacing Omar Ayub.
