PM fulfilled promise of separate secretariats for south Punjab: Qureshi

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said Prime Minister Imran Khan fulfilled the promise of establishing separate secretariats for South Punjab.
Talking to media after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding the establishment of the South Punjab Secretariats, Qureshi said South Punjab Secretariat would be established at both districts of Multan and Bahawalpur.
He said PTI has made “tangible progress” in terms of fulfillment of manifesto commitments and will facilitate the people of South Punjab at their doorstep.
The members of Parliament belonging to South Punjab apprised the prime minister of the whole situation regarding the functioning of the secretariat, he added.
Foreign Minister Qureshi further said as per prime minister’s direction, he along with Khusru Bakhtiar would soon hold a meeting with the Punjab chief minister in which establishment of relevant offices in Multan and Bahawalpur would be considered.
The foreign minister had expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Imran Khan over the government’s recent steps towards the realization of South Punjab province.
On July 1, Punjab government had formally appointed the additional chief secretary (ACS) and additional inspector general (AIG) for the proposed south Punjab secretariat.
Zahid Akhtar Zaman, a Grade 21 officer working as the irrigation secretary, had been appointed as the ACS and Inam Ghani, a Grade 21 police officer, as the AIG.
Additional chief secretary (ACS) and the additional inspector general of police (AIG) had been appointed for the south Punjab secretariat, he added. He said the two officers will establish their offices in Multan and Bahawalpur to address the issues of people.
