PM forms high-level tourism coordination committee

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has formed a high-level tourism coordination committee.

Special Assistant for Overseas Pakistan Zulfi Bukhari has been appointed as the convener of the committee while the secretaries of the Ministry of Industry and Production, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Communications will be part of the committee.

The secretaries of the Ministry of Aviation, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Ministry of Climate Change have also been included in the committee. The Chief Secretary or Additional Chief Secretary, Chairman Derelict Property Board, Deputy Governor SBP, Managing Director Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation will also be part of the committee.

The conveyor will be authorized to include any individual from the public or private sector in the committee while the committee will review the implementation of the National Tourism Strategy. The committee will coordinate various initiatives at the provincial and regional levels with the action plan. In addition, the committee will review the geo-mapping, tourism facilities, products, and services of the country’s tourist destinations.

The committee will make concrete recommendations to remove barriers to the promotion of tourism and will be empowered to issue directives to provide a conducive environment.
