ISLAMABAD: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has alleged that Afghanistan provides safe havens to Indian proxies and various terrorist organisations, while the Afghan Taliban regime supports elements involved in anti-Pakistan activities.
In an interview with British news agency Reuters, the military spokesperson said India was the biggest sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan. He also described the Afghan Taliban, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) as Indian proxies.
According to Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, various non-state actors and proxy groups remain active in Afghanistan. He said the presence of international terrorist organisations, including Jaish al-Adl, Al-Qaeda and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), in Afghanistan had also been highlighted by the United Nations, the United States and several other countries.
He alleged that the Afghan Taliban had provided shelter to wanted militants, including Noor Wali Mehsud, Bashir Zeb and Gul Bahadur. He further claimed that militants and weapons used in terrorist activities inside Pakistan were being supplied from Afghanistan.
The DG ISPR urged the Afghan Taliban to stop supporting terrorism on Pakistani soil, warning that failure to do so could lead to serious consequences.
He also called on the international community to press the Afghan Taliban to fulfil their international obligations and halt the cultivation and production of narcotics.
The military spokesperson further stated that Pakistan’s armed forces were fully capable of countering all potential threats from Afghanistan, including those posed by drones.
