ISLAMABAD: The new government of Pakistan has announced a significant increase in passport fees, requiring individuals to pay an additional 50 percent for the basic travel document.
A notification issued by the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports has confirmed a substantial hike in passport fees, with the new prices reaching as high as Rs27,000.
This recent government decision to raise passport fees further exacerbates the difficulties for people grappling with inflation and soaring prices.
Under the new pricing structure, the standard 36-page passport for a 5-year validity period has been raised from Rs3,000 to Rs4,500, while the urgent processing fee has escalated from Rs5,000 to Rs7,500.
For a 10-year validity period, the fee for a 36-page passport has increased to Rs6,700, with the urgent processing fee rising to Rs11,200.
People seeking a 72-page passport for a 5-year validity period will now need to pay Rs8,200 for normal processing and Rs13,500 for urgent processing. Similarly, for a 100-page passport valid for 10 years, the new fees have surged to Rs12,400 for regular processing and Rs20,200 for urgent processing.
