ISLAMABAD: Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari on Tuesday chaired a parliamentary committee to discuss the appointment of members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Meeting of the parliamentary committee on the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner will be also held in the Parliament House today.
During the meeting, the committee held nominations for the appointment of members of the ECP from Sindh and Balochistan forwarded by the government and the opposition.
The participants have picked the name of Naveed Jan Baloch, suggested by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

It should be mentioned that the government and the opposition forwarded their nominations for appointment of ECP members to Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjarani, who then forwarded it to the parliamentary committee for consideration.
The government was required to appoint their successors within 45 days of their retirement.
The delay was caused by disagreements between the government and opposition on the appointment of ECP members as meetings of a parliamentary committee comprising members from both sides ended in a stalemate.
