The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has requested revisions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which could result in more changes to the 2023 World Cup schedule. The consecutive matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal are the main focus of this edition. The stadium is scheduled to host the game between New Zealand and the Netherlands on October 9, followed the next day (October 10), by the fierce contest between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The Hyderabad Police have expressed concerns about potential security issues that could arise from hosting back-to-back matches, with a focus on the high-profile Pakistan match. This is according to a report from The Indian Express. The HCA has formally asked the BCCI to request changes to the scheduling of the two subsequent matches it is scheduled to host in order to allay these worries. The changes are being requested in response to security concerns brought up by the local law enforcement.
Initially, the Pakistan-Sri Lanka match was scheduled for October 12, but the date was altered along with other eight fixtures being rescheduled, including Pakistan versus India game being moved a day earlier to October 14.
The logistics required for a single match are considerable, involving the deployment of around 3,000 police personnel. Furthermore, a substantial security presence is deemed necessary at the hotel accommodating the Pakistan team.
