Islamabad: Pakistan online freelancers will be able to receive PayPal remittances starting this month through a tri-party arrangement without needing to create a PayPal wallet, said the outgoing caretaker minister for IT Dr Umar Saif.
According to Mr Saif, the objective is to make it possible for them to receive PayPal payments from their overseas clients via a third-party digital wallet. This wallet will quickly credit the freelancer’s Pakistani bank account and use an international remittance mechanism to send the money back to Pakistan.
The minister said that the new policy of the State Bank would enable independent contractors to easily access their profits by opening bank accounts using this digital wallet, obtaining debit cards, and setting up dollar accounts.
Freelancers will be able to register with PSEB and will only have to pay a nominal 0.25 per cent tax.
Along with our plan to create 10,000 e-rozgaar centres, this will enable Pakistan to truly benefit from the earning potential of our online freelancers, Dr Saif added.
