The race to become the leading video streaming platform is intensifying, with TikTok, known for its short-form content, now testing hour-long video uploads, according to TechCrunch. However, this feature is currently available only to a limited users in selected coutnries, and TikTok has no immediate plans for a wider rollout.
This isn’t TikTok’s first experiment with video length. Initially, TikTok allowed only 15-second videos, but the limit has gradually increased over time.
In January this year, they raised the limit to 30 minutes for creators, though it has since been reduced to 10 minutes. Creators with subscription models can still upload videos up to 20 minutes long.
Allowing hour-long video uploads on TikTok would enable creators to explore new content formats. For example, an hour-long tutorial could be uploaded in one piece, rather than split into six parts as is currently necessary.
This increase in video upload limit is just one of several new features TikTok is testing. The platform is also experimenting with AI-powered search results that display AI-generated responses to user queries. With these changes, TikTok’s future could look significantly different.
