SWEDEN: A Pakistan-origin man was briefly arrested after he tried to stop the desecration of the Holy Quran in Stockholm.
Salwan Momika, an Iraqi immigrant, was granted permission by the Swedish police to desecrate the Holy Quran in front of the Pakistani embassy in Stockholm.
However, as Momika set to go about his plan in the presence of a large number of policemen, a Swedish national of Pakistani origin, named Shehzad Malik, managed to break through and tried to stop him.
The police arrested Malik and dragged him away, as he kept saying he wanted to stop Momika. Malik said that he had been hurt by the incident and tried to stop it but police arrested him instead.
He said he was kept under custody for one hour during which his clothes, shoes, and purse were searched. When told he was a Swedish national, the police asked him to show his ID card which was then photographed.
The police eventually let him go and told him he would be contacted again. If implicated in a case, Malik could face imprisonment or fines. Malik demanded that the Swedish government should take action against the planned desecrations of the Holy Quran.
This is not Momika’s first attempt to desecrate the Quran. He committed the vile act on June 28 in front of a mosque in Stockholm and also planned a desecration in front of the Swedish parliament earlier this month.
