The federal government of Pakistan has announced a plan to provide more than 116,000 new gas connections in the next fiscal year despite the ongoing gas shortages in the country.
According to official documents, the target for the upcoming fiscal year includes providing gas connections to 115,530 new domestic consumers, 550 new commercial consumers, and 350 new industrial consumers.
85,740 new gas connections will be provided in Sindh and Balochistan during the next fiscal year, while a target of 30,530 new connections has been set for Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Compared to the revised target for the current fiscal year, a total of 96,209 new gas connections are planned for the upcoming year. Of these, 30,530 connections are allocated for the Sui Northern system.
The available documents further indicate that 85,740 new gas connections will be provided through the Sui Southern system during the next fiscal year. The overall target includes 115,530 new domestic gas consumers.
It is worth noting that the target for new gas connections in the current fiscal year 2024–25 was set at 68,990. However, the revised target has been reduced to 20,061 connections.
