KARACHI: Pakistan to install nation-wide internet monitoring system with the help of Canada based company.
According to sources, the company named Sandvine will provide the services by sharing the equipment that is required to monitor and analyze the incoming and outgoing internet traffic.
Other countries such as China has already deployed such a system and Pakistan is likely to be a part of this bandwagon.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has also asked the telecom company to install a suitable system that helps in monitoring the web.
The system will also analyze the “grey traffic”as well. The company had also reviewed the tender sent by the government of Pakistan last year.
The tender said to build the system at national level in order to identify and deny access to online content that is declared as unlawful under the Prevention Electronic Crimes Act 2016, added sources.
The total cost of the project is reportedly $18.5 million. The system will help in monitoring communications like call data for the government.
