LAHORE: Pakistan has got the hosting rights of the inaugural Cricket World Cup for seniors over 40, scheduled to take place from 23rd September to 8th October next year.
According to Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), the 12-team tournament will begin on September 23 with matches taking place at six venues in Karachi.
The registered teams for the senior world cup include Pakistan, India, Australia, England, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Canada, USA, Zimbabwe, Wales, Namibia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The idea behind veterans’ cricket is to bring former cricketers back on the field while also giving young cricketers a chance to see their heroes play the game once again.
Chairman of PVCA Fawad Ijaz Khan claimed that veteran Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi can also be seen in action in the seniors’ world cup. “Test cricketers Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Muhammad Hafeez and others over 40 years of age will also be seen in action,” Fawad stated.
The PVCA chairman further shared the details about the playing conditions and revealed an innings in the seniors’ world cup will consist of 45 overs and also that the matches will be played across six different venues here.
“An innings of the Seniors World Cup will consist of 45 overs. The matches will be played at six different grounds in Karachi,” he shared. “Day and night matches will also be played during the World Cup. The finals of the event will be telecasted live,” Fawad Ijaz concluded.
