KARACHI: The Pakistan stock market opened Tuesday on a positive note, recovering after Monday’s profit‑taking that dragged the benchmark down nearly 200 points.

At 9:37am, the KSE‑100 Index gained 649.91 points to stand at 177,616.59, reflecting renewed investor confidence.

Pakistan stock market weekly context

Last week, it may be recalled, the PSX endured a bearish spell, with the KSE‑100 shedding 2,938 points and market capitalization shrinking by Rs247 billion.

The index closed at 177,166, moving within a band of 5,048 points. Analysts attributed the decline to inflationary pressures, petroleum price hikes, and external economic concerns. Despite the downturn, trading volumes remained strong, with 4.22 billion shares worth Rs205 billion exchanged.

PSX KSE‑100 performance shows rebound

Tuesday’s early trade showed broad‑based gains. The All‑Share Index rose 367 points to 107,967.64, while the KSE‑30 added 175 points to 52,820.39.

Not just that, but the KMI‑30 climbed 813 points to 252,329.68, and the banking index advanced 190 points to 49,952.25. Trading activity was brisk, with over 27 million shares worth Rs1.08 billion changing hands across 12,970 transactions. Out of 568 active symbols, 226 advanced, 66 declined, and 276 remained unchanged.

Market watchers noted that the KSE‑100 points movement reflects bargain hunting after recent losses. The rebound highlights cautious optimism, though analysts warn that volatility will persist until fiscal clarity and external financing signals emerge.

Outlook: cautious optimism ahead

The stock market continues to mirror a tug‑of‑war between bargain hunters and profit‑takers. Market watchers observe that while Tuesday’s rebound is encouraging, sustainability will depend on macroeconomic stability and policy direction in the weeks ahead.
