A statement by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on November 23 suggesting that the Pakistani province of Sindh may “return to India again” has triggered a fierce diplomatic backlash from Islamabad, which labeled the comments as “delusional and dangerously revisionist.”

Speaking to a Sindhi community in New Delhi, Singh asserted the deep “civilizational” ties between India and the region, noting that while the land of Sindh may not be part of India today, “borders can change. Who knows, tomorrow Sindh may return to India again.”

Singh’s remarks, which highlighted shared cultural history and the significance of the Indus River, were made amid high bilateral tensions following India’s recent “Operation Sindoor” targeting terror camps.

Pakistan’s Official Rejection

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) issued a strong condemnation, stating that such rhetoric reveals an “expansionist Hindutva mindset” that seeks to challenge established realities.

Sovereignty Violation: The FO warned that the comments stand in “clear violation of international law, the inviolability of recognised borders, and the sovereignty of states.”

Islamabad urged Indian leaders to “refrain from provocative rhetoric that threatens regional peace and stability,” emphasizing its commitment to peaceful dispute resolution while remaining “firmly resolved to safeguard its security.”

The controversy has been widely discussed on social media in Pakistan, where sentiment largely aligned with the FO’s outrage, viewing the remarks as a provocative and unacceptable challenge to the nation’s integrity.
