The children’s phenomenon, “Baby Shark Dance,” has solidified its position as the most-watched video in YouTube history, with recent figures confirming its staggering dominance over the platform.
The ubiquitous South Korean nursery rhyme, created by Pinkfong, has now surpassed 16.4 billion views, further widening the gap between it and the second most-viewed video, Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito.”
The two-minute jingle, first uploaded in 2016, continues to be played, on average, more than 4.7 million times a day, demonstrating a viral power roughly equivalent to the viewership of the next major contender.
The continued, repeated viewing by toddlers worldwide has proven to be an unstoppable force in the digital space.
| Rank | Video Name | Channel Name | Views (in billions) |
| 1 | Baby Shark Dance | Pinkfong Baby Shark | 16.4+ |
| 2 | Despacito | Luis Fonsi | ~8.8 |
| 3 | Wheels on the Bus | Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes | ~8.0+ |

Views vs. Value
Despite its record-breaking viewership, the company behind the hit, Pinkfong, continues to face challenges in fully monetizing the attention.
Last year, the company generated the equivalent of about $67 million in revenue from all sources, including YouTube.

This disparity underscores the impact of YouTube’s “Made for Kids” rules, which, following a 2019 settlement over child privacy laws, restrict personalized advertising, comments, and notifications on children’s content, severely limiting its high-volume ad revenue potential.
Some analysts estimate that without these restrictions, “Baby Shark” could have generated two to three times more revenue.
