LAHORE: Pakistan has witnessed a spike in coronavirus cases as the number surged to 24,073 in the country, while the death toll stands at 564.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 1,523 cases of coronavirus were reported while 38 people died due to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 6,464 patients have recovered from the disease, while 153 are said to be critical as the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases witnessed a sharp increase in all provinces. Out of a total of 24,073 confirmed cases, Sindh has reported 8,640 cases, Punjab 9077, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3,712, Balochistan 1,663, Islamabad Capital Territory 521, Gilgit-Baltistan 388 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir 76.
Out of a total of 524 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 203, Sindh 157, Balochistan 22, Gilgit-Baltistan 03, Punjab 175, and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 04 deaths.
A recent study conducted by University College London (UCL) has stated that the risk of death for people of Pakistani heritage was 3.29 times higher than the other Asian countries.
