ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has launched a large-scale crackdown against poorly performing officers in electricity distribution companies (DISCOs), ordering strict disciplinary action following a detailed performance review across the sector.
Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari directed immediate action against field officers showing consistently poor results, including Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) and Executive Engineers (XENs). The directive came after a review of the Customer Complaint Management System and overall operational performance of power distribution companies across Pakistan.
According to the Power Division, more than 100 officers across different DISCOs in Pakistan have been identified for poor performance during the review period from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. Their performance was found to be below required standards, particularly in resolving consumer complaints across Pakistan’s electricity network.
The minister expressed strong dissatisfaction over delays in addressing public grievances, saying failure to ensure timely resolution through the 118 call center system reflects poor service delivery in Pakistan’s power sector. He added that officers who fail to take the system seriously are undermining the government’s consumer-focused reforms in Pakistan.
As part of the action, DISCOs including PESCO and SEPCO in Pakistan have already suspended several officers. PESCO suspended three SDOs and one XEN, while SEPCO suspended one SDO and a former XEN over poor performance.
The Power Division has instructed all chief executive officers of DISCOs in Pakistan to initiate disciplinary proceedings without delay. These may include suspension, transfer to non-operational posts, and in severe cases, compulsory retirement.
Officials said weekly monitoring of complaint resolution will now be enforced at sub-division and division levels, while performance rankings of SDOs and XENs will be published every quarter to improve transparency and accountability in Pakistan’s power sector.
The government said the move aims to strengthen governance and ensure better service delivery for electricity consumers across Pakistan.
