KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader and former provincial home minister Manzoor Wassan has served a legal notice of Rs50 crore on former Additional IG Ghulam Shabbir Sheikh, demanding a public apology over alleged defamatory remarks.
According to details, the notice was issued through Barrister Mustafa Mahesar in response to allegations of bribery made against Manzoor Wassan during a social media interview.
The legal notice states that the allegations levelled against Wassan regarding bribery during his tenure as Sindh’s home minister are “false, baseless and misleading.” It further argues that such claims have caused serious and irreparable damage to his reputation, political career, and public standing.
The notice demands that Ghulam Shabbir Sheikh issue a public apology without delay over what it describes as fabricated accusations.
It also warns that if the apology is not issued within 14 days, legal proceedings will be initiated under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and defamation laws.
Manzoor Wassan’s lawyer stated that the viral social media interview is an attempt to defame his client and has no legal or moral justification.
The development adds to a growing trend of high-profile political figures pursuing legal action over allegations made on social media platforms.
