KARACHI: Pakistan is continuing to witness a sharp drop in daily coronavirus deaths as the country reported 15 fatalities.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases surged to 280,461 in Pakistan, while the death toll stands at 5,999. According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 330 cases of COVID-19 were reported.
The number of coronavirus patients in Sindh has risen to 121,486 and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the number has risen to 34,223. Balochistan has 11,774, Islamabad 15,076, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 2,093, Gilgit-Baltistan 2,180, and Punjab 93,197.
The death toll from the coronavirus has risen to 2,148 in Punjab, 2,224 in Sindh, 1,202 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 165 in Islamabad, 136 in Balochistan, 54 in Azad Kashmir and 55 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Recoveries have reached 248,577 at a rate of 80%, indicated the figures released by the National Command and Operation Center, the body leading Pakistan’s fight against the coronavirus.
Pakistan is among a handful of countries where cases of COVID-19 have dropped considerably in recent weeks. However, health experts have cautioned that this could be the result of fewer tests.
Authorities have imposed lockdown in virus hotspots across 20 cities. According to official statistics, the country has so far administered over 2 million tests for the virus.
