KARACHI: As many as 200 bodies, including those of 13 women, have been recovered from various locations across Karachi since January, with their identities and causes of death still unknown, the Edhi Foundation said the other day.
According to Edhi officials, the abandoned bodies were found on roadsides, riverbanks, in bushes, and inside vacant houses across the city. All of the deceased remain unidentified.
In the first four days of July alone, the bodies of three men were recovered, the foundation said.
Edhi officials noted that many of the deceased were believed to be drug addicts, though the exact circumstances of their deaths have not been determined.
The foundation said all bodies were found in an abandoned state, with no documents or other means of identification on them.
Police have yet to comment on whether investigations are underway to establish the identities of the deceased or the causes of death.
The Edhi Foundation, which runs the city’s largest network of morgues and ambulance services, routinely handles unclaimed bodies found in public spaces.
