The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will provide free Wi-Fi at public places across Islamabad; however, users will be required to verify their identity before accessing the service.
According to the NTC, under the new system, individuals using the free Wi-Fi will need to provide their name and mobile number, and a record of every connection will be maintained to track which user accessed the service at which location.
Officials state that this step is essential for strengthening security and preventing potential cyber threats.
The free Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed in high-footfall areas, including metro bus stations, major commercial zones, and other public locations.
Reports indicate that for swift implementation, the NTC has obtained support from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other relevant departments.
Authorities emphasized that identity verification is not only the user’s responsibility but also crucial for ensuring the security of public networks.
This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to expand digital accessibility and maintain strong cyber security across Islamabad.
