The National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on Friday decided to intensify the fight against militancy by taking stern preventative and countermeasures to eliminate any threats to the country.

The NSC — the principal decision-making forum on foreign policy and national security — concluded in Islamabad with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair as the country has seen a spate of terrorist attacks. The NSC meeting was attended by services chiefs, intelligence heads, and federal ministers, the statement mentioned.

During the meeting, the heads of intelligence institutions gave a detailed briefing to the participants about the law and order situation in the country, the recent wave of terrorism, and steps to tackle it.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar briefed the participants about the economic situation and challenges of the country and briefed the participants about the economic strategy and the measures adopted by the government.

“Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar briefed the meeting on the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s relationship with the interim government in Kabul.” The statement said.

The statement reads that the meeting expressed an “unequivocal opinion” that Pakistan’s national interests would not be compromised, and no one would be allowed to harm the country’s national security.

“The meeting expressed determination that terrorists are enemies of Pakistan. The entire nation is united on one narrative against terrorism and terrorists. Those who challenge Pakistan will get a full-force response,” the statement asserted.

It was stressed that the interests of Pakistan’s survival, security and development would be protected with great courage, consistency and steadfastness.

The meeting paid tribute to the great sacrifices of the martyrs who lost their lives in terrorist incidents and expressed sympathy.

It was emphasized that the entire nation was united on the common narrative against terrorism and terrorists.

The meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) will finalize its decisions on Monday in line with the recommendations.
