RAWALPINDI: Northern inflicted an 11-run defeat to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) despite Wahab Riaz’s five-wicket haul in the 29th game of the National T20 Cup.
Chasing a target of 145 runs, Mohammad Rizwan’s side was restricted to 133-7. KP’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris provided an ideal start with a flurry of boundaries.
Mohammad Haris played a steady 79-run knock which came off 70 balls and included nine boundaries and a six. As Haris continued his brilliant performance, wickets kept falling at the other end.
Northern skipper Imad Wasim removed the senior batsmen Mohammad Rizwan (9) and Shoaib Malik (6) cheaply to stall KPK’s run-chase. Haris Rauf continued his good form and returned with figures of 3-28 in his four overs.
Northern, after electing to bat first, made 144-9 with captain Imad Wasim top-scoring with 36 off 20 deliveries with the help of six boundaries.
Wahab Riaz inflicted early damage on Northern as he removed Ali Imran (8) and Haider Ali (7) inside the powerplay. Riaz completed a five-wicket haul as he returned with figures of 5-21 in his four overs.
