NHA increases toll tax on highways and motorways once again

National Highway Authority (NHA) has once again announced in increase in the toll tax on highways and motorway across the country. This is the fourth increase in toll tax during last 10 months which will take effect from April 1.

According to the notification issued by the NHA, motorists will now have to pay Rs70 for cars, Rs150 for wagons, and Rs250 for buses. Toll charges for two-axle and three-axle trucks have been set at Rs300, while heavy trucks will be charged Rs550.

The increase applies to several major motorways, including M1, M3, M4, M5, M14, and E35. On the Islamabad-Peshawar M1 motorway, car toll tax has been raised from Rs500 to Rs550. Similarly, on the M3 motorway from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem, the toll for cars has been increased from Rs700 to Rs800.

For the M4 motorway connecting Pindi Bhattian, Faisalabad, and Multan, car toll charges have risen from Rs950 to Rs1,050. The toll for cars on the M5 motorway from Multan to Sukkur has been increased from Rs1,100 to Rs1,200. On the Dera Ismail Khan-Hakla M14 motorway, car toll charges have gone up from Rs600 to Rs650.

Additionally, toll charges on the E35 motorway from Hassan Abdal to Haveliya and Mansehra have been raised from Rs250 to Rs300 for cars.

For larger vehicles, toll taxes on M1, M3, M4, M5, M14, and E35 motorways now range from Rs 850 to Rs5,750, depending on the vehicle type.

This surge in the toll charges came following the International Monetary Fund (IMF) proposal for Pakistan to set a tax collection target of over Rs15 trillion for the upcoming fiscal year.
