Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled new details about the “Apna Ghar Apni Chhat” scheme. This initiative aims to construct 500,000 houses across Punjab over the next five years, addressing the pressing housing needs in the region.

The scheme is designed to provide affordable housing options for families and enhance living standards. To support this, the cabinet has approved housing loans for plot holders with valid ownership letters and CNICs. Borrowers can apply for a loan of Rs. 1.5 million, which requires monthly payments of Rs. 14,000 over a nine-year term. In the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need for the loan scheme to be converted into a revolving fund without charges, while also streamlining the scrutiny process for applicants.

In addition to the housing scheme, the cabinet also approved the “Chief Minister Green Tractor Program,” which will distribute 9,500 tractors with a Rs. 1 million subsidy per unit, set to launch in September 2024, with balloting on October 20. Another significant initiative, the “Children Heart Surgery Programme,” aims to enhance healthcare services for children.

Moreover, the cabinet decided to increase penalties for illegal weapons possession, raising fines from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 700,000, alongside a three-year rigorous imprisonment sentence. The approval of the MDCAT policy for both public and private medical and dental colleges was another key decision made during the meeting. Additionally, Punjab’s first Life Insurance Company was sanctioned for establishment.
