Social media users have been expressing dissapoinment over Oscar nominations which included Barbie star Ryan Gosling, however, Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig were left out of the deserving category.
Barbie director Greta Gerwig and leading actress Margot Robbie failed to be nominated in the Best Director category and the Best Actress category respectively, irony fact, ‘Barbie’ is a female-centric film about feminism.
Since then this has become a valid issue for so many social media users who are calling out the Oscars over their irrelevant selection. Let’s have a look at the tweets:
Greta Gerwig: Made a critically acclaimed, culturally profound, feminist movie about Barbie and the patriarchy that made a billion dollars at the box office.
Oscar nomination goes to … Ken. #Barbie #Oscars2024 pic.twitter.com/mQ8xlYPzc3

Greta Gerwig made a film that was critically acclaimed, culturally impactful, hilarious, unique, visually exceptional, perfectly cast and acted, left people laughing, crying and thinking AND made a billion dollars at the box office. But no Best Director nom?! #Barbie #Oscars2024 pic.twitter.com/ePfuiDbEfm

So Greta Gerwig created one of the most original films of the decade, one that completely blew apart people’s expectations of what a #Barbie movie could be & resonated with millions … yet apparently that’s not *quite* worth a nomination for best director??? #Oscars2024 pic.twitter.com/UXbm4zrdIy

Ryan Gosling’s Ken would have been nothing without Margot Robbie’s Barbie and for her (not him) to NOT be nominated is incredibly disappointing.#Barbie #Ken #BarbieMovie #BarbieandKen #Oscar #Oscars #OscarNoms #OscarNominations #AcademyAwards #MargotRobbie #whatweretheythinking pic.twitter.com/HfmzlzDnZY

Seems really odd to me how #Barbie could be nominated for best lead actor, best supporting actress and even best film, but they don’t acknowledge Margot Robbie as lead actress (the heart and soul of the film) or Greta Gerwig as director.#Oscars2024 pic.twitter.com/rAvbAFxcPu

Hollywood hates women, they saw that #Barbie won the year by making THE MOST money at the box office, so this is their way of humbling her. That’s right, I said it 💅🏽 pic.twitter.com/EToFO8IwPz

Bro how did the person playing Barbie not get a nomination for Barbie? Like excuse me…..😂💜 #Barbie https://t.co/T47zqS66yp pic.twitter.com/t53XfddJul

If Ryan deserved a nom, then Margot certainly did, the fact she wouldn’t have won isn’t the point. It almost feels like the Academy deliberately played into the theme of the movie to get people talking. #Oscars haven’t been about who actually deserves it for a long time. #Barbie pic.twitter.com/310vTCXqEB

The film for women by women doesn’t get a best director or best leading actress nom? I’m sorry what #Barbie pic.twitter.com/UVKukIp6IJ

No Best Director nom for Greta?? That movie could have gone south a million different ways, and yet it most certainly did not. What she was able to do with A BARBIE MOVIE – creatively, politically & commercially – was miraculous. #Barbie #Oscars2024 pic.twitter.com/eonUtDHdc5
