ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) joined hands with other Opposition parties and decided to go for an in-house change after seeking approval from the party’s supremo, Nawaz Sharif, several media outlets reported on Monday.
According to details, Progress was made during backdoor contacts between PML-N and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Sources have claimed that the decision was taken to give a tough time to ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Informed sources have claimed that PML-N has also contacted the leadership of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) to get it on board. PML-N sources expressed hopes that both opposition parties are likely to make a consensus on the upcoming elections.
During the talks, the PML-N leadership reiterated that it “does not wish to remove the government in an unconstitutional way,” sources said, adding that JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PML-N President Shshbaz Sharif will meet in a few days to discuss further strategies.
PML-N sources said that the party has never said that Prime Minister Imran Khan should be removed in an unconstitutional manner.
Earlier on January 5, PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC) had recommended continuing its public movement to topple Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government besides deciding to strongly protest against the rise in inflation.
The opposition party had decided to hold strong protests in provincial, national assemblies and the Senate. It is expected that PPP CEC will decide on starting contacts with other opposition parties to tighten noose around the PTI government
