Islamabad: The Anti-Terrorism Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is reported to have arrested a NADRA officer, identified as Kabirullah, from the NADRA headquarters in Islamabad on allegations of issuing fraudulent Pakistani identity cards to 17 Afghan nationals.
The accused was transferred to the FIA Counter-Terrorism Wing (FIA-CTW) police headquarters for further interrogation and formal investigation. Sources within the agency said investigators have broadened the probe to determine whether the arrest represents an isolated breach or part of a wider network within the identification authority.
MM News has learnt that FIA investigators are examining the officer’s records, communication logs and access to sensitive databases to identify potential accomplices and to trace how the fake identity documents were produced and distributed. Officials said the inquiry aims to establish whether other internal staff or external facilitators were involved in the misuse of state-held personal data and security credentials.
According to investigators, some of the forged National Identity Cards were subsequently used to obtain Pakistani passports.
The agency warned that, under a systematic plan, individuals with forged documentation—including those described by authorities as Afghan terrorists—may have used these credentials to settle abroad. Officials expressed concern that such networks could enable persons intent on violence to travel and potentially carry out acts that would harm Pakistan’s reputation and security.
The FIA investigative teams are believed to continue forensic analysis of digital records and pursue international cooperation where necessary to track the movement of those issued fraudulent documents.
