ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Monday that the moon of Moharramul Haram 1443 AD was sighted in the country and the Ashura would fall on August 19 (Thursday).
The first of Muharram, which is also the first day of Hijri year 1443 according to the Islamic calendar, will be observed tomorrow, August 10.
The announcement was made following a meeting for the moon sighting, chaired by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad in Quetta.
The provincial and district moon sighting committees also held their meetings simultaneously today at their respective headquarters.
Muharram is the month of mourning for the seventh-century martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAWW). Security is beefed up across the country for the many processions taken out by the believers.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid today (Monday) has asserted that all measures would be taken to maintain law and order across the country during Muharram-ul-Haram.
He also urged the citizens to follow the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) to control the spread of deadly virus during Muharram. “The religious scholars should guide the people to act on the anti-corona protocols,” he added.
Sheikh Rashid asserted that it was responsibility of every countryman to promote the culture of peace and brotherhood during the holy days of Muharram to fail the nefarious designs of enemies.
“India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), National Directorate of Security and Israeli spy agency were trying to sabotage peace in Pakistan and they were also using media to create disharmony among various sections of Pakistan,” he pointed out.
